When finished, the Southern Maryland Carousel and Woodcarving Museum will be the only one of its kind in Maryland. The planned 10,000
to 12,000 square foot facility will feature many amenities, including a
hand-carved mix of new carousel animals and restored antique horses,
ponies, chariots, rounding boards and mirrors. It will be home to a
wonderful fountain complex providing fun and enjoyment to children of
all ages. Also there will be a fully operational band organ, a gift
shop, and a special events room.
The woodcarving and learning
center will be designed to provide continuous, year-round activities.
Since a carousel provides a natural array of themes-including horses,
motion, the visual arts, arts and craft, music, nostalgia and
especially children, the entire complex will enhance many activities in
Southern Maryland.
The vision includes school competition in
woodworking, arts and crafts--including having county schools adopt
their mascots on the carousel.
